Barber of Seville

This sparkling production of Rossini's comedy is led by two of today's greatest opera stars - Maria Bayo as the young ward Rosina and Juan Diego Florez as her handsome suitor, Count Almaviva. The wily Figaro (the Barber) is Pietro Spagnoli, Bruno Practico is the hapless guardian Don Bartolo, and the cunning singing teacher Basilio is the renowned Ruggero Raimondi.

Cinderella

As both a dancer and choreographer, Rudolph Nureyev inspired and influenced ballet more than any other man in modern history. In 1987, he choreographed an inspired version of Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Cinderella that instantly became a classic for The Paris Opera Ballet. A ballet in three acts based on the novel by Perrault, Nureyev's colourful, cinematic dream version of Cinderella sets it in America during the years of the Great Depression in the 1930's and 1940's.

Nutcracker

Giselle

Romance, heartbreak, vengeful ghosts, love that transcends death! The Royal Ballet production has it all - classic ballet tragedy and a once-in-a-lifetime ballerina in the role that launched her to stardom. Partnered with Johan Kobborg, young Romanian alina Cojocaru dances the great role Giselle as if born to it. Legend has it that she was promoted to principal at the end of the first performance.

Don Giovani

One of the masterpieces of the operatic repertory, Mozart's Don Giovanni opens The Royal Opera's new 2008/09 Season in Francesca Zambello's flambouyant and fiery production, first seen in 2002. Even by 1787, when Mozart and his librettist Lorenzo da Ponte wrote their drama giocoso for discriminating Prague public, the exploits of the notorious young Spanish nobleman with an insatiable appetite for women had been shocking and amusing audiences for hundreds of years.

Messiah

To celebrate Handel's 250th anniversary, Easter at King's features a glorious performance of what is probably the most popular of all oratorios - Messiah. Under the direction of Stephen Cleobury, the Choir's much anticipated presentation of Handel's Messiah is the centerpiece of King's College's 10-day Easter celebration. Internationally recognized as the pre-eminent representative of the great British church music tradition, the Choir owes its existence to King Henry VI who envisaged the daily singing of services in his magnificent chapel.
